I wrote this poem because I discovered for myself that one cannot go without the other.
If we don’t turn inside, we can’t connect authentically with each other. We won’t understand, we will get overwhelmed or blame. Our minds wants to resist pain, so we need to turn inside and feel this resistance. If everyone is resisting, what happens? People will start to feel alone with their pain, and maybe even start to act this out.
So if we learn to not resist, naturally we will become more compassionate and understanding of eachother, bringing us in connection. To solve problems and challenges we have.
A Call For Connection
To All Youth, Including Myself
We gotta unite—
A call to go inside,
To make sure things turn out right.
We gotta learn to feel each other’s pain,
And remember: there is no one to blame.
Becoming aware of our emotion
And sharing them with devotion.
Learn to care.
To lean into each other,
And build a world of belonging.
Because loneliness is a wound,
And connection is the cure.
To the youth, to the dreamers, to us all—
The tools are here.
The information is here.
It’s enough.
Time to live it.
To embody it.
To embrace it.
To bring hope.
To bring compassion.
To bring balance, clarity, and freedom.
This is how we heal:
Heal greed, fear, shame, anger, anxiety.
Heal the wars, the hunger for power, the climate.
Together.
